Diversity
As a theatre festival, we always strive to represent the diversity of our society in the programme of auawirleben. Hence, from January 2019 to January 2020 we made a statistic to evaluating the diversity of our programme and the process of programming. Using different categories, we examined the diversity of the productions that we watched throughout the year and those that we finally invited to our 2020 festival. Here you will find the criteria and the results of the statistics.
The evaluation was interesting and stimulating for us and raised many new questions. As a team, we questioned whether our approach to evaluating diversity was the right one, and we subsequently had to admit that our approach sometimes fell into the trap of external attribution. The choice of the categories as well as the allocation of individual persons was done by us rather than the people it concerned. But the chosen categories mainly concerned identities which are ascribed to the individual persons through self-attribution. Since this approach is in retrospect neither compatible with our manifesto nor with our values, we have decided not to tackle any new statistics for the programming of the next festival editions. Should we make statistics again at a later date, we will inform you about a new approach. We appreciated any input which could help us approach this topic again!
